“Shiratama” dumpling is one of my favorites.
I think “shiratama” dumpling is popular desert in Japan.
It is quite easy to make at home and people in my generation made it at school too.

You can easily find “shiratama” powder at almost any supermarkets just like flour.
“Shiratama” powder is made from “mochi-gome” rice.
There are two different types of rice, one is called “mochi-gome” and another is called “uruchi-mai”. “Mochi-gome” becomes glutinous rice cakes called “mochi”. But “shiratama” is more moist and smoother than so-called “mochi” made from “joshin” powder.
Taste |
★★★★☆ I like this. “Shiratama” dumplings are soft and smooth. And sweet bean paste and “kinako” powder is the best match. |
Price |
★★★☆☆ Not bad. Around 300 yen. |
Calorie |
★★☆☆☆ 406 kcal per cup. It’s quite high as a “wagashi” (Japanese traditional sweets). “Wagashi” is usually known as its low calories… |
Easy to get? |
★★☆☆☆ I got this at Seven-Eleven, one of the biggest convenience stores in Japan. But in a few weeks I would not be able to see this product… |
Get again? |
★★★★☆ If I could get again I would. |
